Bamburgh Castle Wedding Photos | Northumberland – Denisa & Gary -Colin Jones Photography

Bamburgh Castle has to be one of the most stunning wedding venues I've ever had the privilege of photographing, and Denisa and Gary's wedding on the 21st of March 2026 showed exactly why. Perched high above the Northumberland coast with the sea stretching out below, it's a location that genuinely takes your breath away, and it gave us the most incredible backdrop for their day.

Denisa and Gary chose to keep things small and intimate, just close family and friends gathered around them, and there's something really special about photographing a day like that. Without a big guest list to manage, everything felt relaxed and unhurried, and it meant we had time to properly explore the castle and the coastline around it.

Good Light and a Beach All to Ourselves

Being late March, I always go in hoping for the best with the British weather, but we were properly lucky with Denisa and Gary. The light was soft and bright for the time of year, without a drop of rain in sight, which made for beautiful conditions to shoot in. Because it was out of season and such a quiet, intimate wedding, we had the beach completely to ourselves. No other footprints in the sand, no crowds to work around, just Denisa and Gary, the castle rising up behind them, and miles of open coastline. Moments like that are rare, and it made for some of my favourite images of the whole day.

The castle itself is a genuinely stunning setting to photograph a wedding in. Whether it was portraits against the castle walls, quiet moments looking out to the Farne Islands, or the two of them walking hand in hand along the sand, every corner of this location offered something different. It's the kind of venue where you don't have to work hard to find a beautiful shot, it's simply everywhere you look.

The Venue - Bamburgh Castle

Bamburgh Castle sits on nine acres of rocky plateau above the Northumberland coast, with sweeping views out towards the Farne Islands and Holy Island. It's one of the largest inhabited castles in the country, with a history stretching back to the Anglo-Saxons, and it offers couples everything from the grandeur of the King's Hall to the raw, natural beauty of its own private beach. It's a brilliant choice for both intimate elopement-style weddings and larger celebrations, and for photography it's hard to beat. If you're planning a wedding here, my advice would be to make time for a walk down onto the sand, especially if you're marrying outside of peak season, as you may well find yourselves with that incredible beach all to yourselves.
