The Story Wedding - Durham - Beth and Stephen
The Story in Durham is quickly becoming a very popular wedding venue for couples looking for an intimate wedding. I have shot a few weddings here now, and I always enjoy coming back. It is easy to reach, and the open grounds are ideal for group photos and portraits with the bride and groom.
Located on the outskirts of Durham, The Story combines Georgian grandeur with state-of-the-art modern facilities. Ceremonies are conducted in the recently restored Grade II listed manor house. There are a number of rooms to choose from, including The Oswald Room, The Durham Room, and The Manor Room. Each room is light and bright with its huge windows, which are perfect for the wedding photos.
Beth and Stephen got hitched in The Oswald Room, which is enough for up to 60 guests. This was a short day for me, as I was there for the ceremony and reception, which was a lovely pub, The Cartologist, just a few minutes’ drive away. Just before that, we first headed to Wharton Park, which is just next door to the pub, for some portrait shots. This location was chosen by Beth and Stephen as they wanted some shots with Durham Cathedral in the background. I was blown away by this park! The views of Durham are amazing, and it is such a lovely park. It was quiet enough for the bride and groom not to feel overwhelmed by the onlookers; as you might imagine, they stood out a bit! Thankfully, the park was tranquil and great for a portrait shoot.
At one point, the couple stopped to watch a live show that was being performed. As the wedding photographer, focusing on the bride and groom, I was not even sure what was being performed! Anyway, the performer even took time to stop and congratulate the happy couple, to the applause of the crowd. I love unique moments like this at weddings. Moments that are unplanned but stand out as a highlight for the couple.
Post portraits, it was to the pub where the rest of the evening took place. It was a lovely, calm day, which is exactly what the couple had intended.
