Newcastle Civic Centre Wedding - Newcastle - Hannah and Andrew
Countryside weddings are great with their wide open spaces and beautiful surroundings of trees and fields, but it was somehow really refreshing to get back into a city wedding in the heart of the wonderful Newcastle. I started my photography in London, so I do enjoy a city wedding now and again, especially when they consist of the very cool couple of Hannah and Andrew. These two love life and love the city life too. They just seem to fit in so easily and look at home here, so why not have a wedding in the city that you love!
Newcastle Civic Centre may not sound glamorous on paper, but it is a gem of a venue. Nice open space inside and out, with really interesting, art-deco architecture. The building is actually inspired by the Empire State Building in New York. If you are looking for a city centre venue for your wedding, then you have to consider this place.
Before the Civic Centre, I arrived at the INNSiDE by Meliá Hotel for Hannah’s bridal prep. The hotel is right on the river front which gave us amazing views of the world famous Tyne Bridge. Andrew was also staying at the hotel, down the corridor in fact, which gave me the chance to get some groom prep shots too.
After the prep, it was off to the Civic Centre for the ceremony. This was really intimate, with only 20 guests watching as the couple said “I do”. Hannah anticipated that this would be a difficult morning for her due to her Dad not being at the wedding. I even had to convince her for me to come to do some bridal prep shots, because she thought she would be too emotional in the morning. Thankfully, she let me come up to the room to get some great photos of her and her bridal party. She also didn’t want a huge ceremony for this reason, so kept it small and sweet.
Post ceremony, we made our way to As You Like It in Jesmond, where dozens of guests were waiting to greet the couple downstairs in the Frangipani Room. From here were the usual features of a wedding, speeches, cake cutting and first dance. Hannah and Andrew hired a great ska band, wonderfully name Ska Struck. Safe to say they got the party started and kept it going!
Finally, I have to mention the caricature artist Mike Giblin. His work was fantastic and went down a storm with the guests. He worked endlessly from the moment he arrived until he left. If you are looking for something a bit different for your wedding, then check him out!
